ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hindu denominations

So, kid, some people in India believe in a religion called Hinduism. But even among those people, there are different groups or denominations. It's kinda like how there are different types of ice cream flavors.

One of the biggest denominations is called Shaivism. It's like if you love chocolate ice cream the most. These people believe in Lord Shiva who is in charge of destruction, change, and new beginnings.

Another big denomination is the Vaishnavites. They love vanilla ice cream the most. These people believe in Lord Vishnu who is responsible for preserving life and maintaining the balance of the universe. They also believe in the idea of "bhakti," meaning devotion and love towards their gods.

There is also a smaller denomination called the Smartas. It's like if you like all the ice cream flavors equally. These people follow the teachings of Adi Shankara, who believed in the unity of all the Hindu gods and goddesses.

There are a few other smaller denominations too, but these three are the major ones.

Overall, these denominations just have different beliefs on who the main gods are and how to worship them. It's kind of like how different people prefer different ice cream flavors – it's all a matter of personal preference.
