Alright kiddo, so you know how in some ancient stories and legends, there are creatures with the body of a horse and the upper half of a human? They're called centaurs.
Well, there's a special kind of centaur in Greek mythology called a hippocampus. Instead of having the upper half of a man, it has the top half of a horse and the tail of a fish or a sea serpent.
You see, the hippocampus was said to live in the sea, and was said to be a powerful and mystical creature. In fact, some people believed that if you caught a hippocampus, you could harness its magical powers and use them to protect yourself from harm.
But not everyone believed in the magical powers of the hippocampus. Some people thought it was just a made-up creature, like a fairy or a unicorn. But either way, the hippocampus remains an intriguing part of Greek mythology to this day.
