Hispanic-serving institution

A Hispanic-Serving Institution, or HSI for short, is a type of college or university that serves a large number of Hispanic students. This means that a lot of the students who go to the school are from Spanish-speaking countries or have Latino or Hispanic backgrounds.

To be considered an HSI, a college or university must have a student body that is at least 25% Hispanic. These schools often have programs and resources that are tailored specifically to support Hispanic students and help them succeed academically.

HSIs are important because they provide access to higher education for students who may not have had the opportunity otherwise. They also help to diversify the higher education system and provide a cultural exchange of ideas between students with different backgrounds.
