ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Historism

Historism is when we study history to understand and explain the world we live in today. It’s like going back in time to learn about what happened before us and how it impacts us now.

Imagine you are playing with building blocks. You can use different shapes and colors to make different things, right? Historism is like taking those blocks and looking at how they were used before. We can see how people used the blocks in the past and learn from their mistakes and successes to build something new and better.

Let’s say you want to build a tall tower. You can look at how people built towers in the past, and learn from what worked and what didn’t. Maybe they used strong materials or built the tower in a certain way to make it sturdy. That’s historism!

By studying history, we can learn from those who came before us so we can improve how we live today. It also helps us to appreciate the things we have now, and understand the sacrifices or struggles people experienced in the past to get us where we are now.
