Okay kiddo, let's learn about the history of Budapest!
A long long time ago, there were many different tribes and people living in the area that would eventually become Budapest. Some of these groups included the Celts, Romans, and Huns.
In the late 800s, a group of people called the Magyars (sometimes also called the Hungarians) came to this area and took control. They began to develop and build settlements, including a town called Buda on one side of the Danube River and a town called Pest on the other side.
Over the years, different rulers and empires took over control of Budapest, including the Mongols and the Ottoman Empire. Eventually, the Habsburg dynasty became the rulers of Hungary and Budapest.
In the late 1800s, Budapest began to flourish and become what we might think of as a modern city. They built beautiful buildings and bridges, and many cultural and artistic movements thrived.
Unfortunately, during World War II, Budapest was heavily bombed and many areas were destroyed. But, the city was rebuilt and over the years it has continued to grow and develop. Nowadays, it's a bustling city with lots of history and culture to explore!
