History of Croatia before the Croats

Okay kiddo, so before there were Croats living in what we call Croatia today, there were a lot of different groups of people who lived in the area. These groups came from all over Europe and Asia, and they each had their own unique cultures and ways of doing things.

Some of the most important groups that lived in this area before the Croats came were the Illyrians, the Celts, and the Romans. The Illyrians were a group of people who lived in what we call the Balkans (which includes Croatia) for thousands of years before the Roman Empire came along. They were really good at farming and hunting, and they had their own language and religion. The Celts were another group of people who came to this area from what we call today France and Germany. They were known for their fierce fighting skills and their love of art and music.

Finally, the Romans came to this area around 200 BCE and they stayed until about 500 CE. The Romans were famous for building big cities and roads, and they brought a lot of new technology and ideas with them when they came. They also brought Christianity to this area, which became very important later on. After the Romans left, there were a lot of different small groups of people who lived in the area. But eventually, the Croats came and they became the dominant group in what we call Croatia today.
