History of Dartmouth

Dartmouth is a place where people go to learn and grow. A long time ago, before there were schools like Dartmouth, there were people who lived in the area called Native Americans. These people were the first people to live in the area we now call Dartmouth. They had their own way of life and did things differently from the way we do things now.

Many years later, in the late 1700s, a man named Eleazar Wheelock decided he wanted to start a school to teach Native American boys how to read and write. He also wanted to teach them about Christianity. He started the school in a small town called Hanover, which is where Dartmouth is located today.

The school was very small at first, with only a few students. Over time, more and more students started coming to the school. They learned about different subjects like math, science, and literature.

In the 1800s, Dartmouth became a college for all students, not just Native Americans. More and more people from all over the country started coming to Dartmouth to learn. The college grew and became one of the most well-respected colleges in the country.

Today, Dartmouth is still a place where people go to learn and grow. Students come from all over the world to study at Dartmouth and learn new things. The college has a long history and a lot of tradition, but it is always changing and growing too.
