Delhi is a really old city that has been around for thousands and thousands of years. A long, long time ago, people used to live in small villages and settlements in the area that is now Delhi. These people were called the Indus Valley Civilization. They were really good at farming and building things, and they made some really cool buildings and art that we still have today!
Over time, Delhi became an important trading center for spices, clothes, and other items. Many different rulers and dynasties started to take control of the city, each one leaving their own mark on the city's culture and architecture.
One of the most famous rulers of Delhi was called the Mughal Emperor Akbar. He built many beautiful buildings and gardens, like the Taj Mahal, which is one of the most famous landmarks in Delhi today.
Later on, the British came to India and took control of Delhi. This was a really tough time for the people of Delhi because they were treated unfairly and didn't have as many opportunities as British people did.
But eventually, the Indian people came together and fought for their freedom. In 1947, India finally became independent from British rule, and Delhi became the capital city of independent India.
Today, Delhi is a really cool city with lots of things to see and do. There are amazing street foods to try, beautiful temples and monuments to visit, and lots of fun places to explore. It's a city with a really interesting history, and there's always something to learn about it!
