Easter Island is a small island in the Pacific Ocean, far away from any other island. It is famous for being home to very large stone statues called Moai. The first people to live on Easter Island were Polynesians, who came about 1000 years ago. They built the Moai and filled the island with various plants and animals. Over time, the people of Easter Island grew, using up the resources of the island and eventually leading to famine and conflict between the people. Eventually, all of the resources had been used up and the people of Easter Island had to find other ways to survive. In the 1800s, Europeans visited and brought diseases that made the population of Easter Island die off. Eventually, Easter Island was colonized by Chile, who remains in control of it today.
