History of Georgia (country)

So, a long, long time ago, there was a place called Georgia. Yes, just like the peach state in America, but this one is on the other side of the world in Europe/Asia! Georgia is a very old country, with a really rich history that goes back thousands of years.

Many different people have lived in Georgia throughout its history. The Greeks and the Romans were some of the first people to visit, but it wasn't until the 4th century that Christianity arrived in Georgia. The Georgian people adopted Christianity and it became an important part of their culture.

Georgia was ruled by different kings and queens over time, but in 1783 it became a kingdom ruled by King Erekle II. Soon after, the Russians began to take over the area and the Georgian king had to accept their control. Throughout the 19th century, Georgia became part of Russia and many different social and political changes took place.

In 1917, after the Russian Revolution, Georgia declared its independence and became the Democratic Republic of Georgia. Things were good for a while, but unfortunately, Georgia's independence was short-lived. In 1921 the Soviet Union invaded and Georgia was forced to join. Georgia became a Soviet state for the next 70 years, living and working under Soviet control.

However, in 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed and Georgia declared its independence again! Today, Georgia is a country with its own government, traditions, and culture. It's a beautiful country with mountains, beaches, and a rich history to explore!
