Okay, so a long, long time ago, before anyone can even remember, there were different groups of people living in what we now call Hungary. These groups had different languages, cultures, and ways of living.
One of the earliest known groups of people to live in Hungary were called the Celts. They were known for being really good at making metal objects like tools and weapons. They also liked to decorate their things with fancy patterns.
After the Celts, there were a bunch of other groups who came and went, like the Romans, who built big buildings and roads, and the Huns, who were really good at riding horses and shooting arrows.
But the most important group before the Hungarian Conquest were the Avars. They were a nomadic people who came from central Asia and were also really good horse riders. They liked to move around a lot and sometimes fought with their neighbors.
The Avars ruled over what is now Hungary for almost 200 years. They were very rich and had lots of gold and silver objects. They traded with other countries and even sent ambassadors to meet with the Byzantine Emperor.
So, before the Hungarian Conquest, Hungary was a place with lots of different groups of people, each with their own way of living and culture. The Avars were the most powerful group at the time and they had a big influence on the region.
