History of Naples

The history of Naples is a very long and interesting story! Naples is a city in Italy that has been around since ancient times. It was first settled by the Greeks in the 8th century BC and eventually became the capital of the Roman Empire in 326 BC. Over the centuries, Naples has been ruled by the French, Spanish, and Austrian kings before becoming part of what is now known as Italy. Naples has been a centre of arts, culture, and cuisine throughout its long history, becoming a leading port city in the Mediterranean region. It is also known for its active volcanoes, including the famous Mount Vesuvius that famously destroyed the nearby city of Pompeii in 79 AD. Naples has continued to be an important city for politics, business, and tourism in modern times.
