History of Polish

Polish is a language that people in Poland speak. Poland is a country in Europe. It's been around for a really long time, like hundreds of years.

A long time ago, before people even wrote things down, people in Poland probably spoke different languages. But around the 10th century, people started writing in something called Old Polish.

Poland was an important country in Europe for quite a while. They had kings and queens and all sorts of people ruling over them. But sometimes other countries would try to take over Poland. This happened a number of times throughout history.

In the late 18th century, Poland was completely taken over by other countries. The people in Poland were very sad about this. It wasn't until 1918 that Poland became its own country again.

During World War II, Poland was invaded and occupied by Germany. This was a very bad time for the people in Poland, and many people were hurt and killed.

After World War II, Poland became a communist country. This meant that the government controlled everything and people didn't have as much freedom as they might have wanted.

But in 1989, things changed again. Poland became a democracy and people had more freedom to say and do what they wanted. And now, people in Poland still speak Polish and they are proud of their country and their language.
