History of Rome

Many, many years ago, there was a city called Rome. It was a big city with lots of buildings and people. The people spoke a language called Latin and they had their own special way of writing called Roman numerals.

The city of Rome started off small, but it got bigger and bigger until it became one of the most important cities in the world. The Romans were great builders and they made lots of amazing things like roads, bridges, and aqueducts.

The Romans had their own government, which was called the Roman Republic. It was run by two consuls who were elected by the people. There was also a Senate which was made up of important people who helped make decisions.

One of the most famous things about the Romans was their army. They were very good at fighting and they conquered lots of other countries. They even invaded Britain and built a wall to keep out the wild Scots!

Eventually, the Roman Republic became an empire, with an emperor in charge. The most famous of these emperors was Julius Caesar, who was a great general and conquered lots of other countries.

The Roman Empire lasted for a long time but eventually it started to fall apart. The barbarians, who were tribes of people from outside the empire, started to invade and the Romans couldn't defend themselves.

In the end, the Roman Empire came to an end and Rome became just another city. But the Romans left behind lots of amazing things like their language, their laws, and their buildings which are still around today.
