Okay kiddo, a long time ago (in the 1980s), Sri Lanka wanted to create software that could be used by their people who speak the Sinhala language. Sinhala is the main language spoken in Sri Lanka and they wanted to make it easier for people to type and use computers in their language.
At first, they created software that could convert English letters into Sinhala letters. This was called a font. But, it was still difficult to use because there were many letters in the Sinhala alphabet that did not exist in English. So, they needed to make special software that could recognize and use these letters.
Then, some smart people started to work on creating software that could recognize the Sinhala alphabet and make it easy for people to type and use computers in their language. This software was called Sinhala word processors.
These word processors allowed people to type in Sinhala, just like how people type in English using Microsoft Word or Google Docs. With this software, people could create documents, send emails, and even design websites in their own language.
But, the early versions of these software were very basic and had limited features. They could only type and save simple documents. Over time, the software became more advanced and started to include more features like spell-checking and formatting options.
Today, there are many Sinhala software available that people can use to type and use computers in their language. These software have made it easier for the people of Sri Lanka to communicate and work in their own language. And that's the history of Sinhala software, little one!
