Okay kiddo, so let's talk about the history of Western Australia! It's a place in Australia that's all the way on the other side of the country from where we live.
A really long time ago, way before you were born, the Indigenous people of Western Australia were the first ones to live there. They lived off the land and had their own culture and traditions.
Then in 1616, a Dutch explorer named Dirk Hartog landed in Western Australia. But it wasn't until 1770 that a British explorer named Captain James Cook also visited the area. He said that the land was now claimed by the British Empire.
But it wasn't until 1829 that the British sent people to actually settle in Western Australia, and that's when things really started to change. The British brought with them their own culture and way of life, which was very different from what the Indigenous people were used to.
Over time, more and more people came to Western Australia, and the population grew. Western Australia became a state in 1901 when Australia became a country. Throughout the 1900s, Western Australia continued to develop and change.
Even though Western Australia has a long and interesting history, it's important to remember and respect the Indigenous people who were there first and still live there today.
