History of anatomy

Okay kiddo, do you know what anatomy is? It's the study of the human body and how it works. People have always been curious about their bodies, so they've been studying anatomy for a really long time.

Back in Ancient Egypt, scientists were taking out organs from dead bodies to study them. They wanted to know how everything worked together. This was the beginning of anatomy.

As time went on, different people in different parts of the world started to study anatomy too. For example, in Ancient Greece, a man named Hippocrates studied the human body too. He is known as the "father of medicine". Later on, a man named Galen, who lived in Ancient Rome, did some really important work on anatomy too. He was the first to describe the differences between arteries and veins.

But it was during the Renaissance period in Europe that really big steps were made in the study of anatomy. A man named Andreas Vesalius wrote a book called "De humani corporis fabrica libri septem" which means "The Seven Books on the Structure of the Human Body". This book was really important because it showed detailed pictures of the human body and how everything works together.

Today, people are still studying anatomy. We know so much more than people did a long time ago because of all the work that has been done. And who knows, maybe one day you will be discovering new things about the human body too!
