History of architecture

Architecture is like building blocks but much bigger and grown-up versions.

Do you know how when you are at home, you have walls to keep you inside and a roof to keep you dry when it rains? That is what architecture is all about - designing and building structures that provide a safe and comfortable space for people to live, work or play.

Now imagine people way back in time, before they had all the fancy tools and technology we have today, building structures that were much much larger and grander - some even so big that they could probably fit your entire neighbourhood in them! That is what the history of architecture is all about.

The history of architecture is the story of how people from different parts of the world in different times and societies, have built big buildings and spaces - from the Pyramids of Egypt to the Great Wall of China, from the Colosseum of Rome to the Eiffel Tower of France, and from the Taj Mahal of India to the Burj Khalifa of Dubai.

Over time, different styles and designs of buildings were created, based on what the people liked and needed at that time. For example, people in Ancient Greece built structures with columns and geometric shapes, while people in Ancient Rome built structures with large arches and domes. Medieval Europe had castles and cathedrals, while the Renaissance period saw a lot of classical and artistic buildings.

Today, architects still use all these styles and designs and even mix them up to make new, interesting and sturdy buildings. And who knows, maybe someday you will become an architect too and design your own cool tower!
