ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

History of dance

Dance has been around for a very long time, even before people could write things down. People used to dance because they were happy, or as a way to celebrate, or to tell stories or show off their skills. As time went on, different groups of people created their own styles of dance. For example, in Ireland, people created a dance called the Irish step dance, which involves lots of fast footwork and is still popular today.

In the United States, different styles of dance started to develop in the early 1900s. Some people danced the Charleston, which involves lots of hopping and swinging of arms and legs. Others did the Lindy Hop, which was a type of swing dance. As time passed, other styles of dance became popular, such as ballet, which is a very graceful and elegant dance that started in France many years ago.

In the 1960s, people in the United States started doing a new style of dance called the Twist. It involved twisting your hips and moving your arms up and down, and it was a really big hit! Since then, lots of other dances have become popular, like hip hop, salsa, and many more.

Overall, dance is something that people have done for a very long time, and it has changed and evolved over the years. People will continue to create new styles of dance in the future as well.
