History of serfdom

Serfdom is a system of farming that was popular hundreds of years ago. In this type of farming, people who owned the land (lords) would let people who worked the land (serfs) live and farm on it. The serfs had to give some of the food they grew to their lord and could not leave their lord's land without permission. This meant that serfs were stuck working on a lord's land for their entire lives. Eventually laws began to change and serfdom became less and less popular until it no longer existed.
