History of the Armée de l'Air (1909–1942)
The armée de l'air is the French Air Force. It was first created in 1909 when people started to figure out how to fly planes. France was one of the first countries to do this.
At first, the armée de l'air was very small and didn't have a lot of planes. But as time went on, they got better and better. They even played a big role in World War I, which was a really big war that happened a long time ago.
After the war, the armée de l'air continued to grow and get better. They had some really cool planes that could go very fast and very high. They used these planes to protect France from other countries that might want to attack them.
Sadly, during World War II, France was invaded by a bad country called Germany. The armée de l'air tried to fight back, but there were too many German planes and they didn't have enough resources. Eventually, France had to surrender and the armée de l'air was disbanded (which means it was no longer a thing).
Even though the armée de l'air stopped for a little while, France still had pilots who wanted to fly and protect their country. So, after the war, the armée de l'air was created again and it's still around today!
