History of the Thai Forest Tradition

The Thai Forest Tradition is a type of Buddhism that started in Thailand in the 19th century.

It's called the Forest Tradition because it started with monks living in the forest rather than in temples or cities. These monks were called "forest monks."

One of the most famous forest monks was named Ajaan Mun. He lived in the forest for many years and practiced meditation (sitting very still and quiet, like a statue) for long periods of time.

Ajaan Mun was important because he taught other monks and helped spread the Forest Tradition throughout Thailand.

Now, there are many Forest Tradition monasteries in Thailand and other countries around the world. Monks still live in the forest and practice meditation, just like Ajaan Mun did a long time ago.

People who follow the Forest Tradition believe that it is important to live a simple life without lots of material things. They also focus on purifying their minds through meditation and other Buddhist practices.
