Monopoly is a very old board game – it first appeared in the early 1900s. The original version of the game was invented by a man named Charles Darrow, but he wasn't the first one to think of it. Way before Darrow, a woman named Elizabeth Magie created a similar game called The Landlord's Game. It was designed to show people how unfair rent prices were for people in cities. Later on, Darrow noticed how popular The Landlord's Game was and decided to make his own version of it and market it. Eventually, Darrow sold his version of the game to the Parker Brothers game company, and they named it Monopoly.
