History of the metric system

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago people used all sorts of different systems to measure things like length, weight, and volume. But it could be really confusing because not everyone was using the same system, and sometimes the measurements were different in different parts of the world!

So a bunch of smart people got together and decided to make a new system that would be used all over the world, and they called it the metric system. They made it so that everything was based on 10, which means it's really easy to understand and use.

For example, instead of using different units for length like inches, feet, and yards, they made the meter the standard unit for length. And instead of using different units for weight like pounds and ounces, they made the gram the standard unit for weight.

It took a while for people to start using the metric system, but eventually it became really popular because it was so easy to understand and use. Nowadays, almost every country in the world uses the metric system, except for a few like the United States who still use their own system. But even there, lots of people learn the metric system in school so that they can communicate with people from other countries.
