ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hořava–Lifshitz gravity

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of gravity? It's the force that pulls things towards each other, like how the Earth pulls you towards it so you don't float away. Well, some really smart grown-ups are thinking about gravity in a different way. They call it hořava-lifshitz gravity.

Usually, when we think about gravity, we use something called Einstein's theory of general relativity. But hořava-lifshitz gravity is a different way of thinking about gravity that some scientists think might explain some things that aren't explained by Einstein's theory.

The idea for hořava-lifshitz gravity comes from two scientists, Petr Hořava and Mark Lifshitz. They thought about how to change Einstein's theory of gravity so that it would make more sense with some new information they had. They used some math to come up with this new idea, but we don't have to worry about that right now.

One really cool thing about hořava-lifshitz gravity is that it might be able to explain how the universe is expanding faster than it should. We know that the universe is expanding because we can see galaxies moving away from each other. But we don't really know why the universe is expanding like this. Some scientists think that hořava-lifshitz gravity might give us an answer.

So, in short, hořava-lifshitz gravity is a different idea for how gravity works that some scientists are exploring to understand how the universe might be expanding.
