ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Holy See

The Holy See is like the home base for the leader of the Catholic Church, also known as the Pope. Just like you have a house where you live with your family and make important decisions, the Pope has a special place where he lives and makes decisions.

The Holy See is located in Vatican City, which is a very small country inside of Rome, Italy. It’s kind of like a big castle or palace because it has big walls around it to protect the Pope and his people.

In addition to being the Pope’s home base, the Holy See also represents the Catholic Church as a whole. This means that when the Pope speaks or makes decisions, he is also speaking for all the other Catholics around the world.

The Holy See also has a lot of important jobs, like organizing big events for the Catholic Church and making sure that all the churches around the world are following the same rules. It’s like the Pope’s special team that helps him do all of his important work.

So, to sum it up, the Holy See is kind of like the Pope’s special house and team that helps him represent and make decisions for the Catholic Church.
