Home composting

Home composting is like making food for the plants and soil in your garden. Imagine you have a magic box and you put in things like fruit and veggie scraps, eggshells, tea leaves or coffee grounds, grass, and leaves.

Inside the box, tiny living creatures called microbes start to break down these things into a rich, dark soil, which is called compost. This compost is great for the plants because it has lots of nutrients and helps the soil hold onto water, which plants need to grow big and healthy.

To make sure your magic box works well, you need to give it a bit of love and attention. You can help the microbes by giving them the right amount of air, turning the compost every week, and keeping it moist but not too wet.

After a few months, your compost will be ready to use! You can add it to your garden to give your plants a special treat. By composting at home, you’re not only helping your plants and the environment, but you’re also reducing the amount of waste going into landfills. Isn’t that cool?
