ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Homeostatic plasticity

Homeostatic plasticity is like a thermostat in a house. In a house, a thermostat helps to keep the temperature the same no matter how hot or cold it is outside. Homeostatic plasticity does the same thing for the brain. It helps keep the level of nerve cell activity in the brain the same, no matter what's happening. It does this by adjusting the connection between nerve cells so the brain can continue to function normally.
