A homeowners association (HOA) is a group of people living in a certain area, like a neighborhood or a building, who have agreed to follow certain rules. They usually appoint a board of directors, which is made up of volunteers from the neighborhood or building, to oversee things. The board members make decisions about things like which rules the members must follow, what activities can happen in the neighborhood and how to spend any money the HOA collects from dues from the members. All members are usually required to pay a fee to the HOA to help cover the cost of things like maintaining common areas, making repairs, putting on events, and more.
