ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hong Kong Cantonese

Hong Kong Cantonese is a way of speaking that people use in Hong Kong. It has its own special words and sounds that make it unique.

Let's say you and your grandma are walking down the street in Hong Kong and you see a cute puppy. You might say, "oh grandma, look at that doggy!" But in Hong Kong Cantonese, you would say, "aiya, mui mui, lok ah, ngo dei hon gau woh geou!"

Just like how there are different ways of speaking in different parts of the world (like how people in Australia might say "mate" instead of "friend"), people in Hong Kong have their own way of speaking that makes it special and unique.
