ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Horse training

When you are riding a horse, it's important that the horse knows what you want it to do. Just like how you have to learn how to listen to your parents and follow the rules, horses need to learn certain commands too. This is where horse training comes in!

When you are training a horse, you first need to make sure that the horse is comfortable with you being around it. Horses are big animals, so they can be scared if they don't know you well. You might brush the horse's fur, give it some treats, and spend time around it so that it feels comfortable with you.

Once the horse is comfortable, you can start teaching it commands. Horses can learn commands like "walk", "trot", and "canter". To teach the horse these commands, you will use something called "rein pressure". This means that when you want the horse to do something, you will gently pull on the reins and the horse will feel pressure on the bit in its mouth. The pressure will tell the horse what you want it to do.

But, it's not just about teaching the horse to walk, trot, or canter. You also need to teach it how to turn, stop, and back up. You can use a similar method with rein pressure to teach these commands.

Horses are very smart animals, so they can learn quickly. But, it's important to be patient with them and to never use force or hurtful methods. Positive reinforcement, like treats and praise, is a great way to encourage the horse to learn and behave well.

Overall, horse training is all about teaching the horse commands and making sure it feels comfortable with you. With practice and patience, you and your horse can become a great team!
