Imagine you have a group of friends and one of them decides they want to be the leader. They say they know everything and everyone should listen to them.
That's how fascism starts. It's when one person or a small group of people want to have all the power and control over everyone else.
Fascist leaders usually promise to make things better for the group they’re leading. They might even say that they’re going to make their country great again. This can make people feel good, like they’re part of something important.
But then the fascist leader starts making rules that only benefit them and their ideas. They start telling people what to do all the time and making it harder for anyone who disagrees with them.
They might tell people that they’re better than others and that certain groups of people are bad or not equal. This is called discrimination and it's not fair.
Fascist leaders might also use violence or fear to keep people in line. They might make it hard for people to speak up, too. This is called censorship.
In a fascist government, there’s usually only one political party or group. People aren't allowed to have different opinions or beliefs.
All these things together make it so that the people who aren’t in the fascist leader's group don't have any power or control. It's not a fair system because everyone should have equal opportunities and rights.
