ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hubris (law)

Hubris in law is when someone, like a lawyer or judge, has too much confidence and thinks they know more than everyone else. It's like when a big kid thinks they're so strong that they can carry a really big rock, even though it's too heavy for them.

In law, when someone has hubris, they might make bad decisions because they don't listen to other people or think about all the consequences. It's like when a kid doesn't listen to their mom and eats too much candy, even though they know they'll get a stomachache.

Hubris can be a really big problem in law because it can lead to mistakes and make people lose trust in the legal system. It's important for people in the legal system to listen to other people, admit when they don't know something, and work together to make the best decisions. Just like how it's important for kids to listen to their parents and make good choices, even when they want to do something fun or silly.
