ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

HughesNet

HughesNet is a thing that lets you use the internet even if you live in a place where there aren't any wires or cables that can bring internet to your house. Instead, HughesNet uses a really big satellite in space to send internet signals directly to a little dish that's attached to your house.

When you want to use the internet, you use a special box called a modem to send a signal to the satellite. That signal goes up to the satellite and then comes back down to your dish which captures it and sends it to your computer or phone or tablet. And then, voila, you're on the internet!

Not everyone can use HughesNet, though. It's really good for people who live in rural areas or in places where there aren't any wires or cables that can carry internet, but it's not as fast as internet that comes through wires. That's because it takes time for the signal to travel from the satellite to your dish and back again, so it can be a little slow sometimes. But for many people, HughesNet is the only option they have for getting internet, so it's a very important technology!
