Hugo Bergmann
Hugo Bergmann was a very smart and important person who lived a long time ago. He was born more than 140 years ago in a place called Livorno, which is in Italy. He grew up in a really big family with lots of brothers and sisters.
When Hugo was a grown-up, he studied and learned a lot about important things like religion, philosophy, and politics. He became so smart that he even became a professor at a university in a country called Germany.
But then something really bad happened. There was a big war in Germany and Hugo had to leave because he was Jewish and it was not safe for him anymore. He decided to leave and go to a different country called Israel.
Once he got to Israel, he continued to learn and teach about really smart things. He wrote books and taught people about philosophy and religion.
Hugo was very kind and liked to help other people. He believed that everyone should be treated equally no matter where they came from or what they believed in.
