Hukou system

The hukou system is like a set of rules that everyone in China has to follow. It's like a big list of rules that everyone has to obey in order to live or work in China. It says what city or town you can live in, or where you must stay to go to school or get a job. It can even dictate who can get married or what kind of jobs you can have. All these rules make sure everyone is living where the government wants them to, and also makes sure everyone is paying taxes and doing what the government wants them to do.
