ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Human eye

Okay kiddo, your eyes are like cameras that help you see everything around you. They have a special part called the retina which takes in light and sends messages to your brain telling you what you are seeing.

When you look at something, the light reflects off of it and enters your eye through the front part called the cornea. The cornea helps to focus the light and protect your eye from dust and other things that could harm it.

The light then passes through a clear liquid in your eye called the aqueous humor and enters the pupil. The pupil is like a little black hole that gets bigger or smaller depending on how much light the eye needs to see clearly. When it's dark, the pupil gets bigger, and when it's bright, the pupil gets smaller.

After the light passes through the pupil, it hits the lens. The lens is like a magnifying glass that helps make things look bigger and clearer. It can change shape to focus on things that are close or far away.

Finally, the light reaches the retina at the back of the eye. The retina is made up of tiny cells called photoreceptors that detect light and send signals to your brain. Your brain then interprets these signals to let you see what's in front of you.

Overall, your eyes are amazing tools that help you to see, explore and discover the world around you!
