Human interactions with insects in Africa

Okay kiddo, in Africa there are lots of tiny creatures called insects. Some of them are good, like bees that make yummy honey and ladybugs that eat bad bugs. But some of them are bad and can hurt people, like mosquitoes that carry diseases.

People in Africa have learned to interact with insects in different ways. Some of them use insect repellent to keep the bad insects away. Others use mosquito nets to protect themselves while they sleep at night. Some people even use plants to repel insects, like citronella candles.

But insects aren't all bad. In fact, some insects can be very helpful to people. For example, there are certain insects called bees that help pollinate plants so we can have tasty fruits and vegetables. And some people even eat insects as food, like grasshoppers or termites.

So, it's important for people to have a balance with insects. We need to protect ourselves from the bad ones, but also recognize the good ones and how they can help us.
