ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Humbert series

Imagine you have a bag of marbles, and you want to count how many marbles you have. But instead of taking them out one by one and counting, you can use a special trick called a humbert series to figure it out.

A humbert series is like a special kind of equation that helps us figure out how to count things in a certain order. It's like a pattern that tells us how to add up a bunch of numbers in a certain way.

Let's say you have 5 marbles in your bag, and you want to count them using a humbert series. First, you start by adding up all the numbers from 1 to 5. So you start with 1 and add it to 2, then add that to 3, then 4, and finally 5. When you add them all up, you get 15.

But that's not the total number of marbles! We need to keep going. Now, we take that total number, 15, and we add it to each of the numbers from 1 to 5 again. So we start with 15 and add 1 to it, then add 15 and 2, then 15 and 3, and so on. When we add them all up, we get another number.

Now we keep doing this over and over again, adding the new total to each of the numbers from 1 to 5. Each time we do this, we get a bigger number. We keep going until we have done it 5 times, which is the same as the number of marbles we started with.

So after we do this process 5 times, adding the new total to each of the numbers from 1 to 5, we finally get our answer. The final number we get is the number of marbles we have in the bag.

And that's how a humbert series helps us count things. It's like a special pattern that tells us how to add up a bunch of numbers in a specific way. So instead of counting things one by one, we can use this pattern to figure out the total amount.
