Humboldt squid are big squids that live in the ocean. They are named after a famous scientist named Alexander von Humboldt. Humboldt squid are kind of like the superheroes of the ocean because they are really fast and can move up and down really quickly. They have special powers that help them hunt for their food, using their big eyes to see in the dark, and their strong arms and tentacles to catch smaller creatures.
Humboldt squid live in the Pacific Ocean near Central and South America. They can grow to be almost six feet long and weigh up to 100 pounds! They are also really smart and can communicate with each other by changing color, squeezing their muscles, and flashing lights.
But even though Humboldt squid are cool, they can sometimes be scary. Sometimes they get really angry and attack boats, divers, or other sea creatures. Scientists are still learning about these squid and how to stay safe around them. So if you ever see a Humboldt squid in the ocean, remember to be careful and give it plenty of space.
