ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hydreliox

Hydreliox is a kind of gas that some people use when they go diving or exploring really deep underwater. Let me explain it to you like you're 5 years old:

When we go underwater, we can't breathe like we do on land. You know how we need air to breathe, right? But when we're underwater, there's no air for us to breathe. So people invented things like scuba gear that lets us breathe underwater. Scuba gear has a tank of air that we carry on our back, and a tube that goes into our mouth so we can breathe the air from the tank.

But sometimes, people want to go really deep underwater, where it's very dark and the water pressure is very strong. The air in a scuba tank isn't strong enough to keep our bodies safe in those conditions. That's where hydreliox comes in.

Hydreliox is a special mixture of gases that's made just for deep dives. It's made up of three different gases: helium, oxygen, and hydrogen. Helium is a gas that makes your voice sound funny, like a chipmunk. Oxygen is the gas we need to breathe, like the air we breathe on land. And hydrogen is a gas that helps to make the hydreliox stronger so we can dive deeper.

When people use hydreliox, they still need to wear scuba gear like they do with regular air. But with hydreliox, they can go even deeper and stay longer underwater because their bodies are protected from the water pressure. It's like having a special suit that makes you stronger in the water.

So that's hydreliox: a special gas mixture that helps people explore even deeper underwater than they could with regular air.
