ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Hyperon

Alright kiddo, imagine you have some building blocks, just like the ones you use to make towers and bridges. Now, scientists have discovered that in nature, there are even smaller building blocks called particles that make up everything around us, including you and me! One of these particles is known as a proton, and it's made up of even smaller building blocks called quarks.

Now, there's another type of particle that's similar to a proton called a hyperon. The difference with a hyperon is that it has one or more quarks that are different from the quarks found in protons. This makes hyperons very special, because they interact with other particles in a unique way.

Hyperons don't live very long, just like the sandcastles you build at the beach eventually get washed away by the waves. But scientists still study them because they can help us understand how the universe works on a very small scale. And who knows, maybe someday you'll be a scientist that discovers something even smaller and more fascinating than a hyperon!
