ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

IEEE Std 260.1-2004

So, you know how when you play with your toys, there's sometimes little symbols on them that tell you how to play with them safely? Well, grown-ups have something kind of like that for electricity. It's called the ieee std 260.1-2004.

This is a really long and complicated set of rules that was made by smart grown-ups called engineers. They made it to help other people who work with electricity know how to do it safely.

Basically, it tells them things like how much electricity is safe to use in different places, and what kind of materials they should use so they don't get hurt.

It's kind of like when you're learning how to use scissors. Your teacher told you to be careful and not cut yourself, right? Well, the ieee std 260.1-2004 is like a teacher for grown-ups who use electricity. It helps them stay safe and make sure that everyone around them stays safe too.
