ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

INID codes

IND codes are special numbers that are given to new drugs before they are approved by the government. It's kind of like giving a name to a new baby before they're born, but instead of a name, it's a number.

These codes have lots of important information in them. For example, the first letter in the code tells us what kind of drug it is. Is it something you take as a pill, or does it go in your veins through an IV? The next two numbers tell us what company is making the drug. This helps people know who to go to if they have questions or problems with the drug later on.

The last four numbers in the code are for the specific drug. This helps differentiate between different drugs that the same company might be making.

So, the IND code is like a special name tag for a drug that tells us all about the medicine and who made it.
