IP routing

IP routing is like giving directions. It helps to move information from one place to another.

If you wanted to get from your house to a friend's house, you would need directions. You would look at a map and chose the best way to get there.

IP routing is like that, but with information instead of people. When your computer needs to send something to another computer, it needs to know the best way to get it there. It looks at a "map" called a routing table to figure out the best way to get the information there.

The routing table is full of different "directions" that say how to go from one place to another and the best ones to use. When your computer needs to send something, it looks at the routing table and chooses the best "direction" to get the information where it needs to go.
