ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

IT8

Hey kiddo, you know how sometimes when we try to take a picture of something, the picture comes out looking a little different than what we actually see with our eyes? That's because the camera and the computer that we use to process the picture don't "see" things the same way we do.

That's where something called an "it8" comes in. It's a special type of color chart that helps the camera and computer know exactly what colors they should be seeing and processing in the picture.

The it8 is a piece of paper with a bunch of different colored squares on it, kind of like a rainbow. When we take a picture of the it8 with our camera, it helps the camera understand what colors it should be seeing when it takes pictures of everything else.

Then, when we process the picture on the computer, we use the it8 to help the computer know what colors are supposed to be in the picture. That way, the picture looks more like what we actually saw with our eyes.

So basically, an it8 helps the camera and computer "see" colors more accurately, so that pictures look more like real life. Pretty cool, huh?!
