Iberian Peninsula

The Iberian Peninsula is a big piece of land that sticks out into the ocean on the southwestern part of Europe. It's made up of two countries, Spain and Portugal, and it also includes a tiny country called Andorra. This area is special because it has its own unique culture and history that has been shaped by many different groups of people who have lived here over time.

A long time ago, big groups of people called "Iberians" and "Celts" lived on the peninsula. Then, the Romans came and took over and ruled the area for a long time. After the Romans left, a group called the Visigoths took over and then the Moors (a group of people from North Africa) came and conquered the area in the 8th century.

For the next few hundred years, the Moors had a big influence on the Iberian Peninsula. They built beautiful palaces and mosques, and they introduced new ideas in art, science, and culture. Eventually, a group called the Reconquista led by Christian knights fought with the Moors until they finally drove them out of the region.

Spain and Portugal eventually became two separate countries on the Iberian Peninsula, but they still share a lot of the same cultural and historical background. Today, the region is home to many different languages, religions, and traditions, making it a very diverse and interesting place to visit and learn about.
