ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ice bridge

An ice bridge is like a bridge made of ice that forms over a body of water (like a river or ocean) when the water freezes. Just like how you can step on a regular bridge to cross a river, people and animals can walk on an ice bridge to cross over the frozen water.

Sometimes ice bridges can form naturally, like when the temperatures get very cold for a long time and freeze the water solid. Other times, people will purposely build ice bridges by pouring water over a support structure like a rope or scaffolding until it freezes solid.

It's important to be careful when walking on an ice bridge because if it's not thick enough or if there are cracks, it could break and you could fall into the freezing water. That's why it's always a good idea to wait for an expert to check that it's safe before walking on an ice bridge.
