Okay kiddo, have you ever played with very tiny blocks of ice? Imagine now that these blocks are very big and floating on top of freezing water. Sometimes when it's very cold and windy, the water will start to freeze around the edges of these big floating ice blocks.
As the ice expands, it can start to push against itself and these ice blocks can start to collide with each other. When this happens, the ice can start to pile up and shove itself onto the land. This is called an ice shove.
It's kind of like when you and your friends are building with blocks and you accidentally bump into each other and all the blocks come crashing down. Except this is with huge blocks of ice and it can be very dangerous if it happens near buildings or people.
So, when there is an ice shove, it's important to stay away from the area and wait until it's safe to go back.
