Idaho stop

The Idaho stop is a rule for cyclists that means they can slow down but sometimes don't need to come to a complete stop at stop signs when there are no other cars or people coming. This is because bikes are much slower than cars and coming to a stop can be difficult and potentially dangerous.

So imagine you're riding your bike and you come up to a stop sign. If there are no other cars or pedestrians around, you can slow down almost to a stop, but you don't have to come to a full stop. You can keep going as long as there is no danger.

This is called the Idaho stop because it was first made legal in Idaho in the 1980s. Many people think it's a good idea because it can help keep cyclists safe while making it easier for them to travel on the road.

It's important to remember that the Idaho stop is not legal everywhere, so it's always a good idea to check the rules in your area before you try it out. And of course, even if it is legal, you should always be aware of your surroundings and make sure that it's safe to continue riding without coming to a full stop.
